Citizens of Nowhere [Film, 2024]

Thanks to the support of Hamilton’s City Enrichment Fund, we were able to produce “Citizens of Nowhere”, a film about MMORPG players in a dying virtual world. This has been a passion project of mine for quite a few years now, and I’m excited to share this film very soon. The film has been submitted…

Exile’s Beyond [Web-Series, 2024]

Equal parts comedy, tragedy, Myst parody, and love-letter to Christopher Guest, Exile’s Beyond is perhaps my last hurrah as a writer/director. It’s a mockumentary web show set in the fringes of the gaming industry of 1997, and I think you’re going to love it.

Steel Town Gaming [Web-series, 2017-2022]

This was a project I started in film school that ended up taking much, much longer than expected. From 2017-2022, this was my opus. There’s a few things I’d change if I could go back, but overall I’m really proud of this thing.

Model Railroad [Short film, 2020]

Quite possibly my best work, Model Railroad is a short film about loneliness, masculinity, and small trains. I don’t want to give too much away before you see it, but this one is really quite good.

Bill Cafe [Web-series, 2009]

Here’s an oddity in the Powellfilm canon: a web show I made while I was in middle-school! This one is hosted on the “Dork Daily” YouTube channel (formerly “Numa Network”). There’s a long story to how this one was created, deleted, and ultimately rediscovered. But for now, here’s an early episode:

Films by Nathan

Welcome to my website! Between the mid-2000s and the early 2020s, I made a whole bunch of short films and web shows. Most of them are comedy-adjacent, or focus on computers, and exist somewhere outside recognizable genre lines.

I’m no longer all that interested in filmmaking, so it’s unlikely that this site will be updated in the future. If you know me, feel free to send me an email and ask what I’m up to. If you don’t know me, feel free to watch Exile’s Beyond.
